If rumination was a long distance race; I would likely be a top contender.
Mistakenly, I must believe that I am able to "think" my way out of a situation and that is why I overthink and ruminate.
But God's Word says this, "cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you". 1 Peter 5:7
We don't need to process the pain in our minds to find freedom and healing; we need to trust God by laying it down at His feet. Overthinking never leads us to freedom. It is a heavy chain around our spirit and He wants to lift it off.
When the waves of life come crashing on your shore...choose to think about the One who has held the oceans in His hands.
Two opposing thoughts can't occupy the same mind at the same time. Paul instructs us on what to focus our minds on in Philippians 4:8
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."
So here are some "good and true" things to soak your mind upon and lift your spirit:
"The Lord is on my side; I will not fear" Ps 118: 6-7
"No weapon formed against me shall prosper Is: 54:17
"My faith is the victory, that overcomes the world" 1Jn 5:4
"My joyful heart will help like a medicine" Prov 17:22
"I will always pray and never lose heart" Lk 18:1
And lastly, ruminate on this:
"Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
